Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection which took place on 16 June 2008. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home did not return the AQAA on time and were reminded to complete the selfassessment form. The information given to us in the AQAA was brief but adequate. We received 3 surveys from people living at the home. These tell us that people are very happy living at the home. Residents say that the home gives a feeling of security, and, the home gives us what we need for our comfort and well-being . The AQAA tells us that regular activities are arranged at the home and residents are encouraged to participate either in small groups or on a one to one basis. Balanced, nutritious, home cooked foods are provided with all dietary requirement catered for. Residents tell us that the food is always good and plentiful. The home has an accessible complaints policy and procedure displayed in the home. No complaints have been received during the last year. Any complaints received are recorded in the complaints book. Everyone responding to our surveys said they knew who to talk to if they had any concern or complaint. There is an ongoing maintenance programme for the home. During the year residents rooms have been redecorated and new furniture purchased. A high standard of cleanliness is maintained at the home and any maintenance issues immediately Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 addressed. There are 3 full time and 7 part time staff care employed at the home. 5 staff have achieved an NVQ level 2 or above in Care. Induction and ongoing training is provided. 2 staff members are currently taking a Level 3 and level 4 NVQ and 1 member of staff has completed NVQ 3. Residents say staff are usually available when needed and that they always listen and act on what is said. We received 2 completed surveys from staff employed at the home. These tell us staff are given up to date information about the needs of the people they care for. Staff say that the home has all the good qualities of a great place to work, good staff, residents and management and there is a friendly atmosphere. Another respondent says that the home does really well and cares for everyones needs. 4 new residents have been admitted to the home during the year. Policies and procedures in operation at the home are regularly reviewed. The proprietor now lives on the premises and aims to provide a homely family residence for everyone living at the home. The home has no immediate plans for changes to the service although they constantly try to improve the service provided. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. The home continues to provide a high standard of care and there is no evidence to indicate that outcomes for people who use the service have changed since the last inspection of the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 15 June, 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
