What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. - Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. - Relevant information from other organisations. - What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The home has told us that some of the areas of improvement in the last 12 months have included: Our care planning is much improved and we know how to make it even better with more experience in the system. We have done well to meet the challenges of a more rapid turnover in clients due to more respite care and end of life care. Our Nurse and care team have improved with good coaching and encouragement and organisation. We received surveys back from two care professionals who have contact with the home, comments about what the home does well included Treat people with respect and dignity, friendly staff- good attitude to work. Four care staff returned surveys, they all said that they received training that was relevant to their roles and that kept them up to date with new ways of working. They also said that they knew who to speak to if they had a concern. Three of the staff said that there were usually or sometimes enough staff, however one person said that there were never enough staff on duty, and commented that staff are stretched too thin. We received ten surveys back from people who live at Castle Hill House. Eight of the people said that they always or usually got the care and support that they need, and nine people said that staff were always or usually available when needed. Comments included On the whole the girls are very good and if Im not happy I tell them. I dont have to go to the top but would if I had to. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues and concerns well. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 9th February 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
