Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We asked the manager to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (The AQAA). This asks for information about the service since the last inspection and for any plans for the future. We also ask for some statistics about both staff and residents. We looked at any other information we had gathered about the service since we last inspected. This includes things the service is required to tell us about under the law. They need to tell us about any accidents and incidents that may have an impact on peoples well being. We consider any complaints that have been received and we also look at any allegations of harm or abuse. We then sent out questionnaires to the staff team and to people who live in the service and to professionals who may visit. We quote from these in this report. What has this told us about the service? We learned from this information that things in this home continue to go smoothly and that people who live or work in the home are happy with the way it is managed. The AQAA was returned to us within our timescales and contained detailed information about how well the service meets the required standards. We had not received any complaints or safeguarding referrals about the service and had no other information that caused us concern. The manager gave us robust evidence to show that the home meets or exceeds the required standards. He also describes the changes and improvements in the last year. The home has produced an in-house leaflet that describes the facilities available in this service. This is given to new people along with the Cumbria Care information pack. They continue to develop the new person centred care planning that Cumbria Care are now using. Staff are being trained on how to deliver individualised care packages. They have completed an in-house training plan on good health care. The home held a series of events in the summer around the 40 year anniversary celebrations. They have introduced craft workshops, increased the meals out in local restaurants and pubs and forged a link with local schools and the library to undertake meaningful reminiscence and local history work. More entertainments and activities have been provided through the work of the amenity fund committee with residents making suggestions that have been followed through by the activities organiser and the staff team. The environment has been enhanced and safety assured by developments in the home. Fire safety and risk assessment have been reviewed and updated. More domestic hours have been provided and work roles and tasks reviewed. A number of areas have been redecorated and new furniture, fittings and equipment purchased. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 One of the supervisors has taken responsibility for in-house training and has accessed a number of courses for staff. This included work on safe handling of medication. The manager attended a training course provided by Stirling University on caring for people with dementia. The senior team have now done the preparatory work so that staff can also complete a course from the University on dementia care. The manager confirmed that he continues to monitor quality on a regular basis and is in the process of producing an annual quality review. This means that resident and relative views continue to be sought and he tells us that residents are involved in recruitment and staff meetings and sit on various working groups and committees. In the next twelve months everyone involved in the future of Inglewood propose to introduce more changes and developments. The activities co-ordinator will complete training that will enhance the way activities are undertaken for groups and individuals following on from a customer satisfaction survey on activities. Staff will continue to have equality and diversity training. Improvements to admissions are planned. They are going to introduce further training on managing complaints, concerns and suggestions and staff will continue to receive training and advice on safeguarding vulnerable people. This is part of the ongoing inhouse and Cumbria Care training programme. We received a number of surveys from people who live in the home. Here are just some of the positive comments received. The staff and management are very caring, understanding and helpful. They are Inglewoods biggest asset! Excellent care... I am happy ...cant think of anything that needs improved. They make sure I am clean and tidy...my clothes are always clean. The home is spotlessly clean and always smells fresh. The staff are fantastic always available to help with whatever is needed. If this were a hotel it would be 5 star. We also had a high level of responses from staff. Again these had a positive slant. The home always has a friendly feeling. Warm, welcoming and very comfortable. Always has something going on...coffee mornings, regular entertainments...outings, meals out. Very approachable manager and good team in the office. There were also a high level of survey returns from health and social care professionals: A very well run home where peoples interests are put first. Well led from the top by the manager who is an outstanding leader. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 Ensures privacy and dignity of residents...always welcomes support from the district nursing service and actively encourages joint working. The home is clean, light and comfortable...the food looks good. Realistic about what is possible for people...cares for people when they are terminally ill. I would be very happy for a relative of mine to be cared for there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? This review has not changed our opinion of the service. The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
