Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? To complete this Annual Service review we asked the home to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment or AQAA which tells us how the home is run and what changes have been made since we last visited; We looked at information we have received since the last inspection including how the home has managed any complaints or concerns; We sent questionnaires to people living and working at the home to gather their views about the service; We looked at the information from the last Inspection and previous Annual Service reviews. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it, and it contained all the information we had asked for. This home last had a key Inspection on 17th November 2008, where they were rated as an Excellent service. The review of all the information we have received for this inspection leads us to believe that the home continues to provide Excellent outcomes for the people who live there. The home told us that since their last inspection they have obtained magazines in the native language of a person living at the home and aim to provide more information in other languages; encouraged relatives to participate in maintaining peoples case files; redesigned the brochure; provided a first aid risk assessment; people living at the home now have an emergency letter to take with them in case of urgent hospital admission; a beautician is helping to support people with their appearance; designated staff participate in activities; designed and printed their own Christmas cards; held a number of social events including fund raising for charity and a tallest sunflower competition; updated the whistle blowing policy; replaced corridor carpets and installed a new nurse call system; improved systems for the management of safe food practices; the deputy manager has nearly completed an NVQ level 4 in leadership and management and the manager has completed an IT qualification; the staffing levels have been increased with part time and bank staff; risk assessment shave been expanded; and business planning meetings have taken place. They also told us that they plan to involve people living at the home more in growing their own vegetables; a new chef is to be recruited to help support peoples nutritional needs; improve residents meetings; continue to offer people new learning opportunities; make the table decorations for Christmas; refurbish the main bathroom; relocate the staff room and refurbish the staff sleeping in room; and continue to develop the quality assurance systems. The home have told us that they have not been any complaints made to them in the last year. We have not received any concerns about the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 People who live at the home are encouraged to be as active as possible. The home has its own mobility scooter and laptop for peoples use. People who live there are also involved in recruiting staff, writing and printing their own newsletter, menu planning, cooking and gardening, painting and musical entertainments. People told us: This is the best place in Devon. They care for me and make me feel safe.... the food is very good Linda the manager does an excellent job Its comfortable, cheerful, welcoming and the staff are kind and willing. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? This Annual Service review has not changed our opinion of the home, and we still plan to carry out a Key inspection by 17th November 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns for the people who live there.
