Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys sent to people using the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they listen to the views of people who use the service and they are always looking for any further improvements they need to make. As a result of listening to people they have been able to make the following changes: The service tells us that they now have more comprehensive Individual Service Profiles (ISP) in place. They have also introduced weekly timetables to meet peoples individual choice of activities such as accessing more outside resources such as a gym. This means that peoples needs are consistently met by the staff team and that people are given choices about the sort of activities they want to participate in. They have identified that the people they support wish for various documentation to be adapted into different formats; this includes menus and house meetings. They have transferred policies and care plans into Braille format. This means that people who receive a service are valued and their opinions are sought in how they want to live their lives. They also tell us that they have established positive working relationships with outside professional agencies. This makes sure that peoples needs are being met by the service. They have accessed more training to meet service user needs in areas such as challenging behavior and health and nutrition. All staff are doing or completed the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) 2 or 3. This makes sure that peoples needs are met by competent staff. They have improved the environment by making improvements in accessing the garden area for those who wish to use this and have improved their fully refurbished kitchen. We sent out surveys and two were returned from people living at the homes. When asked what does the home do well they said, Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 I have a well structured routine. They take us out often. I get support to cook, if i want to cook, i have choices. When asked what could the home do better one person said, I dont have any ideas. Four surveys were returned from relatives, carers and advocates. When asked what does the service do well. These are the comments they made: Our relative is cared for very well in the home, with very caring staff. Staff levels always appear adequate, home is spotless and my relative is clean and tidy. Time is spent with my relative and outings undertaken. Understand the needs and support the disabled, also make sure they get medical care when needed immediately informing next of kin. A plan to occupy and improve our relatives life is in operation. Who does a variety of activities and had regular checks on medication and health, which are discussed with us and reported to us. When asked what could the service do better one relative said, Seem to be doing everything necessary. One survey has been returned from a social and health care professional. They told us when asked what does the service do well. Provide small group homes and plan appropriate support to meet service users needs. My experience has been very positive with regard service user i placed there. Four surveys were returned from staff who work at the home. They made positive comments such as: Looks after the service users well making sure they are all well cared for. Very good communication between myself and colleagues and that helps to support better our service users. Respect for individuals different needs, personal care, food and activities. As a company Homes Together respects service users needs and rights and preferences. I like my job and i like working for Homes Together. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and we will do a key inspection by the 7th December 2010.
