This random inspection visit was arranged to update our assessment of compliance with the national minimum standards for care homes for older people in relation to care plans, medication, complaints, staff recruitment, staff training and supervision, quality assurance, and health and safety. Our preparation for the visit included information provided in Care Quality Commission (CQC) surveys completed by nine people living in the home and three staff working in the home. The homes annual quality assessment audit completed by the manager Mrs Buckley was also received, and this told us about the service, the improvements which have been implemented, and gave us some numerical information about the service. The visit was carried out on the 23rd June 2010 by one compliance inspector, and lasted for two hours and ten minutes. At our visit we spoke to three people living in the home, to the deputy manager, and Lorraine Leach who is one of the co-owners of the service. We sampled the care plans for three people, medication records for four people, recruitment records for three members of staff, and supervision and training records for two members of staff. We looked at the arrangements for administering and recording medication, and other records sampled included records relating to health and safety. We found that the service is being managed well, and that people are receiving the support they need and that this is provided in the way that they would wish it. People are happy with the service provided, and find the staff helpful and friendly. What the care home does well:
