Following examination of the information available to us, we made the decision that a Random Inspection could be undertaken rather than a Key inspection. It was recognised that the rating does not change following a Random inspection, however we may inspect if we have any concerns. We have no concerns regarding this service and it remains as Excellent 3 star. The care plans had been reviewed since the last inspection in April 2007. The plans were comprehensive and included both health and social needs. The care plans were up to date and had been evaluated within a maximum period of 6 months. It was discussed with the manager that some of the night entries gave little information, and needed to be more detailed or omitted. On seeking clarification the manager was informed that a record of the persons daily health and social interactions needed to be recorded. That could be reflected in one or many entries. The manager identified how well the plans had worked and she showed us some new care plans that she had just commenced and these were more person centred and easier to reference than the ones currently in operation. Through the information recorded in the documents the staff will now be informed of the person needs and the expected care to be delivered. This can only have good outcomes for people living at the service. We were shown evidence that the people who use the service had completed surveys. A summary of the information had been created, which we also observed. The manager informed us that she wished the service to remain as homely as possible, therefore she felt that pinning up survey results would detract from this fact. We accepted this comment. She advised that she had shared the information verbally in the meetings which were held at the service. Copies of the minutes were seen by us. In the last key inspection there was a requirement relating to the recording of fire drills and other tests. We established that records were kept.
