Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Four returned surveys completed by people using the service. Ten were sent out to the home. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA, and after speaking to the manager of the service, our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service, and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The four people who returned their surveys answered always when asked if they receive the care and support they need, and if the home makes sure they get the medical care they need. They answered always or usually when asked if the staff are available when they are needed, if they listen and act on what they say, and if they like the meals at the home. People made comments like Look after me well, Do most things well, Looks after the residents. The staff have endless patience and Best thing is Im happy here. Two people could not think of anything the home could do better. One person thought the home was not how it used to be. They said Goodness and kindness could be better like they used to be. However, this person said that they always get the care and support that they need, that staff are always available when needed, and that they listen and act on what they say. A second person made comments which were discussed with the manager, after which we could see that action has been taken in respect of their comments. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Everyone said they know who to speak to informally if they are not happy. Two out of the four people knew how to make a formal complaint. The home makes sure everyone has a copy of the complaints procedure, and the manager intends to remind people about the different ways they can complain at the next residents meeting. The home has received eight complaints in the last twelve months, and the manager was able to tell us what has been done to resolve each of these. The information she gave us demonstrated that concerns raised by people living at the service are taken seriously and acted upon. People gave a less positive response when asked whether there were activities available for them to take part in. We told the manager about the comments we had received. She was already aware that improvements were needed, and has already put plans in place so people can be given more choice about their social activities. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. For instance, they have reported three matters to us which have been looked into by the local authority to make sure people are safeguarded. These have been resolved. They have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? It is our statutory responsibility to inspect all care services at least once every three years. therefore we are not planning to inspect this service before 12 January 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
