Quarry Mount is a large detached house in the Old Town area of Swindon offering accommodation and care to 32 older people, some of whom have dementia. The home22008 is a short walk from local shops, post offices, bus stops and churches. The home is arranged on three floors. There is bedroom accommodation on all three floors. The communal space is arranged on the ground floor and consists of a large lounge, a dining room and a further lounge and dining room. A conservatory was added in 2007. There is also some seating accommodation in the hallway. There are two semidetached bungalows in the rear garden accommodating four people. There is a large garden at the rear. Seats and tables are provided in the summer so that people can sit outside. The care staffing rota provides for a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 members of staff during the waking day. There are 3 waking night staff. Details about the weekly fees can be obtained directly from the home. The last Key inspection was on 2nd December 2008.

What the care home does well People are supported to go to bed at the times they choose. People have the choice of blankets or duvets on their beds. Members of staff make sure that people are comfortable when they go to bed. Members of staff are confident and experienced and have developed good relationships with people who use the service. What the care home could do better: The providers and manager work well with us and let us know about things that happen in the home. We have made no requirements or recommendations as a result of this Random inspection. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: As a result of a safeguarding alert we made a Random inspection of the home on 28th January 2010 between 9:45pm and 10:20pm. The alerter alleged that: People are locked in their bedrooms at night. People are tucked in their beds so tightly that they cannot move. Chairs are placed by peoples beds so they cannot get out of bed. Ladies nighties are tied so they cannot touch continence pads. We found that none of these things were true. The outcome of the safeguarding investigations was that the allegations were unfounded. We did not look at the requirements of the last Key inspection during this visit.
