Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We sent the service an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment or AQAA. This is a document for the service to complete to tell us about the way they operate, what they have improved since we last visited and what they plan to do in the coming 12 months; We looked at the last Key Inspection report and the reports of any visits we may have done in the last year; We looked at the information we have received about the service, including any safeguarding alerts or complaints, and the way the home managed these; We looked at the notifications the home has sent us. These are a legal requirement and tell us about incidents that have happened at the home, for example a serious injury to a person who lives there. We sent questionnaires to the people who use the service; and we sent questionnaires to the people who work at the home and other interested stakeholders, such as local general practitioners or district nurses. This approach helps to give us as much information as possible about the way the home is being run. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment when we asked for it. It gave us the information we required. They told us that since our last Annual service review they have reviewed all their policies and procedures to include their quality assurance system; improved the needs assessment systems; completely redecorated and refurbished one of the lounges; improved and updated the staff appraisal forms; and promoted more excursions and trips out. They also told us that they plan to refurbish another lounge and peoples bedrooms as they wish; encourage staff to attend additional training and develop their skills; and increase the amount of personalised care. The home have told us they have received no complaints about their service in the last year, and no safeguarding referrals have been made. People who completed questionnaires for us told us: Looks after a challenging group of clients with great care and compassion Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 They do very well They provide a very caring and supportive home It looks after my mother with great care and sympathy towards her dementia It is like a home not an institution, always welcoming What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We have not changed our mind about the service and will carry out a Key Inspection by 18th June 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns for the people who use it.
