Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection, this included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed by the service and returned to us on 29th September 2009. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. The previous key inspection undertaken on 6th November 2008 Notifications received What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. In the completed AQAA, Helen Graham, the registered owner and manager at The Crescent has identified what they feel they do well and gives no cause for concern about the service, which is consistent with the last key inspection undertaken in November 2008. Since the last key inspection, Helen Graham has identified improvements in key working with new residnets, clarification of medication procedure, access to the menu and provision of a flat screen television and monthly excercise classes, continued staff training programmes including safe guarding and NVQ training and upgrading some of the electrical systems including the fire alert and call bell systems. Helen Graham has identified in the AQAA that improvements in the next 12 months will include developing stronger links with specialist nurses, improve communication, continue with on going redecoration and refurbishment and continue staff training programmes. The data provided with the AQAA tells us about the level of occupancy in the home and an outline of the dependencies of service users, the data also provides information about the staffing levels and competencies. There are 20 members of care staff employed 14 of whom have achieved NVQ level 2 or above in care. Notifications held on file relating to reported incidents have been well managed by the service (The Care Homes Regulations (CHR 2001) expect homes to inform the Commission about certain incidents or events in the home, these are called notifications under regulations 37 of the CHR) We have not received any surveys from service users giving their views on the service and care provided although it is evident from the completed AQAA that The Crescent uses an internal quality assurance audit and includes the views and opinions of services users and their representatives in the quality process. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by November 2010 However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
