Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: We looked at the care records for two people who recently moved into the home, we found that each person had an assessment completed before they moved in. We found that each person had a care plan detailing how they need and prefer to be supported. The care plan focused on their abilities. We spoke to one person who told us that she was aware of the information in the care plan and this was discussed with her each month. We looked at the medication records for both people, including controlled drugs. We found that the records were clear and accurate. We were told that there is a member of staff on each shift who is trained to dispense medication. The home had the pharmacy they use, audit their medication in January 2010. We briefly toured the home, we found the home clean and carpets regularly cleaned to eliminate odours. We looked at the recruitment files for two members of staff, we also spoke to those members of staff. Both files contained the information required to demonstrate good recruitment practice. We found the appropriate checks such as Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) Adult first check and Criminal Records Bureau check, proof of identity and two written references. Application forms had evidence of employment gaps and health declarations as well as evidence of face to face interviews taking place. We looked at training and could see evidence of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) as well as mandatory training such as food hygiene, infection control and moving and handling. We spoke to two staff who told us the training was good and that they felt fully supported.
