Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and they know what else to do to improve the outcomes for people who use the service. They tell us: There is an ethos of openness at Tudor Cottage and the management are pro-active in seeking feedback from all stakeholders. And: All issues and suggestions raised are considered and changes made where appropriate. One resident wanted to exchange the blinds in her room for curtains and so this was arranged. Another wanted her television mounted on the wall to give her more space and this too was arranged. One day a couple of residents were talking about how they loved the sea and within half an hour they were being whisked off to Seaton by the Registered Manager and Provider!. People told us how caring the staff are and said they are very satisfied with the service. Their comments include: It is run as a small friendly home able to give individual attention to the residents. It always has a happy, welcoming atmosphere and this is evident in the rapport between most staff members and residents and Tudor Cottage is always clean and warm. The staff are friendly and caring. There is a very happy atmosphere. The home clearly consider staff training as an important part of providing a good service. They tell us: Of our 15 care staff 62 have achieved NVQ3 in care (or equivalent) and 87 in total have achieved NVQ2. National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) are an indicator of staff competence and the home exceeds the standard of staff with this qualification. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home has received no complaints and the Commission has received no complaints about the home. Each of the five people who completed a survey for us said they know how to make a complaint should they need to. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 19th February 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
