Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? To complete this Annual service review we asked the home to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) which gives us information about how the home is being run; We sent questionnaires to the people living and working at the home to ask their views on the service; We looked at the last inspection report and all the information we have received about the service since our last inspection. This includes any notifications, which are the way in which the home tells us about incidents or accidents that have occurred at the home; We looked at the way the home has managed any concerns or complaints. We also sent questionnaires to professionals who visit the service. This helps us to get a variety of views of the service to help us make our judgement. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was comprehensive and gave us the information we needed. From the information we have received we have decided the home continues to provide good outcomes for the people who live there. The home told us that since their last inspection they have purchased new lounge furniture, a large flat screen TV and increased gardening opportunities; standardised their interview process for equality and diversity monitoring purposes; improved the service user guide and care assessment/planning documentation; provided dementia awareness training for key staff; introduced a key worker system; provided additional en suite facilities; provided single rooms for two people who used to share; purchased a portable ramp for easier access to the back garden; introduced a more efficient drug administration system, including a new drug trolley and storage facilities; introduced falls risk assessments in care plans; appointed an administrator, and provided a new fax machine, laser printer and filing cabinets. They have also told us that they are planning to put in better lighting in the hallway; arrange more outside entertainment; put a summary of local GPs and their contact details in the service user guide; provide an information pack to be given to people considering moving into the home; continue with refurbishment of the home and programme of staff training; adopt the key messages from recent reports; provide themed activity days; provide regular exercise sessions; improve life stories in care plans; provide Mental Capacity Act assessments for each person; provide a computer for the use of people at the home; improve records and auditing systems relating to Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 accidents; consider the provision of a walk in shower; and the manager is to complete her Managers award. The home have told us that they have not had any complaints made about the service in the last 12 months. People who completed questionnaires told us the home provided: Good general care and emotional support A home that cares and listens to our needs Does everything well, looks after you well, caring staff Looks after us well, good at cleaning, home very clean and tidy, home is friendly for staff and service users; The staff are always very cheerful and very caring, noticing any changes in physical or emotional health and take appropriate action Good at caring, cooking tea, nice to chat to carers who are nice to talk to. Staff working at the home or community medical staff visiting in a professional capacity told us: The home provides good quality care for all residents. Every residents individual needs are met to a high standard. The communication between members of staff, seniors and management are to a high level. I believe we do have an effective care team and communication is paramount to the workings of the home. We try our best to give our all into the care in the time we have to do it. Its also very clean and well kept. Very prompt to act accordingly concerning care We have a good team and residents feel very happy in their home environment. However some people also felt the home needed more staffing support, especially in the afternoons, and one person felt that the standards of food could be higher. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our plans and will carry out a Key Inspection by the 4th December 2010. However we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the service or the people living there.
