Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service (07/12/09). The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service in the last 12 months. These are called notifications. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was very clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that Beech Lawn continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. There have been no complaints made to the Commission in the last 12 months. The AQAA states that the home has received 2 complaints in the last 12 months both of which were upheld. The AQAA states we have a wonderful activities coordinator who does a wide range of activities throughout the year and includes sessions weekly for those unable or unwilling to attend group activities. She will play games or read to them, whatever they chose. Our feedback about what she does is always positive. Our food continues to be of a very high standard, and we have incorporated some new ideas in to the menu as suggested by our residents. Mealtimes remained unhurried and provide a good social experience for many of our residents. The dietary intake of our residents is observed and supplements are given if required. The choice of food is excellent and we cater well for a variety of diets including soft, liquidised (as recommended by the SALT team) and vegetarian. Our updated questionnaires allow us to provide people with the things they like to eat thus promoting a better diet. According to the AQAA improvements over the last year include improved care plans, the structure of trained staffing levels has improved to allow more management time and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 some roles and responsibilities have been delegated to members of staff, whilst matron has overall responsibility. Plans for the next 12 months include review of the appraisal system s that they are more evenly spread throughout the year. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 7th February 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
