Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found:
The registered provider of the service has informed us that their service is currently dormant. This means that they are not providing a service for people because their service is; Open for business but has no customers; Temporarily not providing a service (for example closed for refurbishment or some other business reason); Registered with us, and open for business but currently providing only services that are not regulated by us (for example they may be a domiciliary care agency that is undertaking no personal care, or an agency or organisation that is simply acting as a notice board or situations wanted column.) Although the service is dormant their registration with us continues. They can apply for voluntary cancellation if they wish. There is advice about this on our website or they can speak to our regional office who will explain the process to them. Cancellation of their registration will mean that the service will be removed from our register, and they will have no further obligations to wards us in respect of it. This includes the payment of annual fees. If they do not want to cancel their registration, they can remain registered and we will regard their service as dormant. However, they wil still be liable to pay any annual fees that become due for the service. Whilst the service is dormant we will reduce our regulatory contact with them to a minimum of one random inspection every 12 months. we will continue to send them an AQAA (Annual Quality Assurance Assessment) each year and ask you to confirm their service is still dormant. After we have carried out a random inspection we will write a short inspection report and publish this. The report will say what the quality rating is. This will be the quality rating that they were given when there were people using the service, or a n rating if they are a new servicethat has never provided a service to people. Details of the way we treat dormant services can be found on our website. They must tell us when they start to provide a regualted service again. We will then make a decision as to when we will carry out a full inspection of the service, which will include getting the views of people who use the service. If we find they have begun to provide a service again and have not told us, we will hold a management review meeting. At this meeting we will consider what action to take, and this could include enforcement action. What the care home does well:
