Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review:
What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection that we completed on 24 November 2008. We judged that the people who live in the home would be provided with a good quality care service at this time, and we planned to inspection again within two years and to complete an annual service review within one year. Prior to this review we asked the service to complete their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also asks them to give us some numerical information about the service. We sent surveys to the home manager to be given out to people living in the home and relatives, staff members and from other people with an interest in the service. We looked at any information we have about how the service has managed any complaints or significant events. We looked at information we had about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report was looked at to see if there was anything we asked the service to address. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. They told us that they continue to have monthly resident/relative meetings and that they listen to what they are told and make any changes that they can. The communal areas of the home have been redecorated and the home has been supplied with additional specialist nursing and bathing equipment, in view of the increasing dependency levels of people who are now coming in to the home. They also told us that one GP is now providing Local Enhanced Services and visits the home on a twice weekly basis, as well as at other times to see individual people. We received survey forms back from 10 people who live in the home, 10 relatives, six staff members and three healthcare professionals who visit the home. People living in the home told us that were generally very happy with the care and support that they received. the care for the residents is first class, some staff are better than others, more willing and they try to make sure that things are done your way and in your time. There were several comments made about how the staff sometimes do not tidy up after themselves, leaving a mess behind them - this worried three of the 10 people. Relatives made the following comments - the residents need to be given more to drink, Riversway seems to be a good care home, generally of a high standard, my relative is looked after very well and the staff are always helpful and polite, an Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 excellent caring service. The six staff who completed forms said that Riversway was a nice place to work, they were provided with training that enables them to meet peoples needs, and that they were supported. Healthcare professionals made the following comments - they know their patients well, they need to document better the daily aspects of patient care and the staff are very committed and caring and the home seems well run. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. We have not received any complaints about this service since the last inspection. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 24 November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
